TradieTools NZ (tradietools.nz) provides free calculators, guides, tradie directories, and business tools for the New Zealand trades industry. We are based in New Zealand and this policy is governed by the NZ Privacy Act 2020.

What Personal Information We Collect and Why
Tradie listings
When a tradie creates or claims a listing, we collect: business name, contact name, email address, phone number, physical address, trade type, hourly rates, business description, photos, and optionally NZBN and licence numbers. This information is used to display the listing in our directory, route quote requests to relevant tradies, and (for paid tiers) provide analytics and lead management tools.
Quote requests (homeowners)
When you submit a quote request via our /get-quotes/ page, we collect: your name, email address, phone number, suburb, job description, budget, and timeline. This is used solely to match and route your request to relevant listed tradies. We do not sell this information. Homeowner details from quote requests are deleted after 12 months unless you have created an account.
Contact forms
When you submit a contact or enquiry form, your name and email are collected so we can respond to you.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use this site (pages visited, time on site, general geographic region, device type). This data is aggregated and used to improve the site. Google Analytics uses cookies and may transfer data to the United States — see the cross-border disclosure section below.
You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout or via your browser's privacy settings.
Advertising
This site may display Google AdSense advertisements. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ad Settings or via the NAI opt-out tool.
Payment processing
Payments for paid listing tiers are processed by Stripe (Stripe Inc, USA). We do not store your card details — these are held by Stripe under PCI-DSS compliance. Stripe's privacy policy is at stripe.com/nz/privacy.
Cookies
This site uses cookies for the following purposes:
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) — understand how visitors use the site. These are set on first visit.
- Advertising cookies (Google AdSense) — serve relevant ads. These may be set by Google when ad content loads.
- Functional cookies — remember your session if you are a logged-in tradie (subscription management).
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Analytics and advertising features may not work correctly without cookies, but core directory and calculator features remain available.

Cross-Border Disclosure (NZ Privacy Act 2020 — Information Privacy Principle 12)
Some personal information we collect is transferred to service providers based outside New Zealand, primarily in the United States and the European Union (see table above). We only transfer personal information to overseas recipients who we are satisfied have privacy protections comparable to the NZ Privacy Act 2020, or where the transfer is authorised by law.

Data Retention
- Homeowner quote request data: Personal details (name, email, phone, address) deleted after 12 months unless an account has been created.
- Tradie listing data: Retained while the account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account closure on request, except where retention is required for legal or tax purposes (7 years for financial records).
- Payment records: Retained for 7 years to meet NZ tax obligations.
- Analytics data: Governed by Google Analytics data retention settings (default 14 months).
Your Rights Under the NZ Privacy Act 2020
You have the following rights regarding personal information we hold about you:
- Right of access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. We will respond within 20 working days.
- Right of correction: Request that we correct any personal information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, or misleading. Tradie account holders can update most information directly via their dashboard.
- Right to request deletion: Request that we delete your personal information. We will comply unless retention is required by law (e.g., financial records). To request deletion, email contact@tradietools.nz with the subject line "Data Deletion Request".
- Right to complain: If you believe we have breached the Privacy Act 2020, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. We encourage you to contact us first so we can address your concern directly.

Data Breach Response
In the event of a privacy breach that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and affected individuals within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, in accordance with the NZ Privacy Act 2020 (mandatory breach notification requirements, effective December 2020).
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, unauthorised access, use, modification, or disclosure. These include HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, access controls for internal systems, and regular security reviews. No internet transmission is completely secure — if you have concerns about specific data, contact us.
Third-Party Sites
This site links to external websites (Google Maps, No Cowboys, trade directories, software providers, regulatory bodies). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their privacy policies.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be notified to registered tradie account holders by email.
